Universal Pictures and Mattel are teaming up to create a ‘Monster High‘ movie. Akiva Goldsman will produce the film. This partnership follows the success of Mattel’s Barbie.‘Monster High’ Overview
The ‘Monster High’ toy line launched in 2010. It features the teenage children of famous monsters like Dracula, Frankenstein and the Wolfman. These characters navigate high school life, facing various challenges and experiences. Mattel’s recent focus has been on leveraging its intellectual property with Hollywood studios. This new movie deal is part of that strategy.

Production
Currently, there is no director or writer attached to the project. Akiva Goldsman, an Oscar-winning writer and prolific producer, will produce the film. Goldsman is also working on a Major Matt Mason movie starring Tom Hanks. He shares his excitement about ‘Monster High’, having been familiar with it through his daughters’ childhood interest in the dolls.

Previous Adaptations and Future Projects

‘Monster High’ was previously adapted for television by Nickelodeon and Paramount+. Mattel is developing several other projects with notable talent. These include Daniel Kaluuya’s Barney, Vin Diesel’s Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots, J.J. Abrams’ Hot Wheels, and Amazon MGM StudiosMasters of the Universe. The latter stars Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man. Other Mattel properties in development include American Girl, Bob the Builder, Magic 8 Ball, Polly Pocket, Thomas & Friends, UNO, View-Master and Wishbone.Kevin McKeon and Arturo Thur De Koos are overseeing ‘Monster High’ for Mattel. Greg Lessans is overseeing the project for Weed Road. For Universal Pictures, senior VP of production Lexi Barta and creative executive of production development Jacqueline Garell are overseeing the project.
