flying pyramid: FLYING PYRAMID superyacht! Coming straight out of sci-fi show? How does it lift out of water and cruise?
Technology behind flying Pyramid yacht
The hydrofoil designs have many hulls and vanes which help the vessel lift off the surface of water. Only a small part of the yacht touches the water, thereby reducing the drag and offering a smooth and faster ride. This is a sort of gliding experience. Jonathan Schwinge who is the designer has taken this foiling technology since the 1990’s and now brought it with a modern-day twist with sci-fi features.
The design has been re-created keeping in mind the form, super structures, and propulsion of the modern super yacht into a simple enclosure and an elevated mode of travel above the water line. This was explained by Jonathan himself.
While the yacht is traveling at a low speed, the Tetra will use three of its hulls on its underside. From the time it takes off, a Torpedo-shaped foil will extend down from the hull which will help the yacht to lift from the water and glide. This will be a partly flying and partly gliding experience.
As far as the speed is concerned, during take-off, it will have a speed of 17.2mph. while cruising above the water, it will attain a speed of 43.7 mph.
