A security setup similar to that used for the G20 summit will be implemented for the swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi as India’s prime minister scheduled for June 9, sources told ToI. Ground-to-air surveillance will be coordinated with intelligence agencies and the armed forces to ensure central Delhi’s security. Advanced intrusion alert systems, posture detection mechanisms, and covert snipers will all be employed, utilizing every possible resource to address the significant security challenges.South Asian heads of government have been invited to the ceremony, and the leaders of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have already confirmed their attendance. The primary concern for Delhi Police is securing the hotels where these dignitaries will stay. Four major hotels—Taj, Maurya, Leela, and Oberoi—will be placed under stringent security measures.
Furthermore, the movement of the carcade and the security of the route between the hotels and the ceremony venue are crucial. Each dignitary will receive a call sign disclosed on the day of the ceremony. This call sign will help in coordinating their movements to Rashtrapati Bhawan and Kartavya Path.
On Thursday afternoon, a thorough brainstorming session took place at the Delhi Police headquarters to finalize these arrangements. According to a senior officer, the decision to replicate the G20 security measures was made during the meeting.
“This means that there will be venue commanders of DCP rank at each hotel where the foreign heads of state will stay. They will report to the zonal/vertical commanders of special commissioner ranks,” stated the officer.Intelligence agencies are working closely with their foreign counterparts, who will provide immediate security for their respective dignitaries. Delhi Police is using information provided to secure the venues and routes meticulously. Each foreign leader’s threat perception is being individually assessed.Intrusion alert systems and posture detection mechanisms will assist police in monitoring suspicious activities. “The advanced AI-based cameras and software will raise alarm and alert security if a man or a woman is caught scaling the wall or shows unusual bodily movement like crawling or limp walking with a bent back,” explained an officer.
Hotel staff undergo thorough vetting and background checks by the special branch and security unit. The verification reports prepared during the G20 summit are also being reviewed. Each floor will have a separate set of staffers, whose movement will be restricted to their designated floor.
Security personnel will occupy at least two rooms per hotel, serving as control rooms. State borders will be sealed during the ceremony, while malls, markets, monuments, and places of worship will have heightened security through quick response teams, commando units, and strike forces with special vehicles.
