Prajwal’s mother Bhavani Revanna surrenders to SIT, granted anticipatory bail

53

Bhavani Revanna, mother of rape-accused former MP Prajwal Revanna appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with an abduction case on Friday, following a direction from the Karnataka High Court that granted her interim anticipatory bail. The court assured that she would not be detained beyond 5.00 pm.Bhavani has been on the run from the investigation since Saturday last week when she was initially due to appear before the SIT for questioning under charges of abducting one of the survivors of her son’s alleged sexual assault. The SIT has claimed that she was the mastermind in the case and that custodial interrogation was necessary.

Justice Krishna S Dixit, who passed the conditional bail order, has directed that the warrant issued against her by the special court of public representatives be kept in abeyance. The special court had rejected the anticipatory bail petition last month, saying that the prosecution had made out a prima facie case against her.

Her husband, MLA HD Revanna, who is also an accused in the case, is currently out on bail. The SIT is also probing him for charges of sexual harassment of a domestic help. Both Revanna and his wife have been barred from entering KR Nagar in Mysuru district, from where the survivor was allegedly abducted.

Revanna’s son Prajwal, embroiled in the state’s infamous sex video case, is currently in SIT custody. The JDS MP, who is seeking re-election from Hassan as NDA candidate, had fled the country after pen drives containing sex videos allegedly involving him were distributed in his constituency days before the polling in the general election. He was arrested upon his return from Germany on Friday. The court on Thursday extended his police custody up to June 10.
